I am inspired everyday I come to class, not only because I am in class listening and learning, but because I am introduced to so many inspirational people by our class assignments. Reading Mr. McClung's blog was like reading a manual for Teaching 101, "the real deal." This is what I wrote him:
"Hi!I read your blog as a class assignment. I am so glad I did because every little detail that is left out in our program you have managed to put into words that I understand. I am in my first year at the College of Education, and I am looking forward to beginning my career. It's good to know that there are people like you out there to remind us that there are a lot of things a first year teacher should think about. I can be contacted at csteiner43@gmail.com. Thank you for reading, and thank you for the advice."
Sometimes it is easier to just learn as you go, learn by your mistakes, and test new methods for teaching, but it is also very helpful for us as future teachers to avoid common mistakes. I wouldn't want to spend a whole year or two trying to figure out why I can't capture my students attention. By reading this blog I have learned what I can do to quickly pay attention to the warning signs of uninterested students. It's better to avoid a mistake than taking several rotations with new students to learn it. I found it especially helpful to read the part about lesson plans. You try to be as productive as possible, but we can't lose sight of our audience. We need to make a long lasting connection with every student and keep the material relevant and interesting.
