"It's Not About the Technology" K. Hines

I read this post directly after watching the Michael Wesch video. How different they seemed to be. I agree that technology in the classrooms is lacking, but I also believe that what we have isn't being utilized. I have been in so many classes where we had tools like the blackboard, projector and motorized screen, traditional overhead projector, and a computer with Internet, e-companion, and none of the tools were used. What we used were trees. Everything came in a handout. Classwork assignments, book excerpts, lesson work for the day, announcements, schedule, project guidelines, and grades.
I agreed with Kelly's opinion about "teachers should be learners." It is very important to adapt, and incorporate new tools. I agree that sometimes we run in to problems and it sometimes leads to having to do more work to fix let's say a computer program, than the time it would take to have just made our lesson plan without it. If we learn how to work through the technical difficulties, and maybe learn how to troubleshoot a problem, it could actually help us. Tools are available to make things easier and more interesting. Who wants to look at an overhead projection slide that illustrates what some classroom look like? Why not hop onto the Internet and find a similar lesson on video.
