"The Last Lecture"

How can I not begin this blog without writing this: Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! His speech was a tear jerker, intelligent, personable, real, inspiring, and exciting. I learned from him that we do not need to retire our "childhood dreams." Everything that we really want to do we can accomplish! It seems to me that "The last lecture" was prepared to so that we could learn about his life, his accomplishments, and people that were with him along the way.
I liked how the speech was told like a life story. He prepared his speech in chronological order, which was wonderful because I learned about him and his dreams from the very beginning of his life until present time. Although he has passed away, he has not gone away. Everyone that watched his speech, everyone that was involved in his work, and all the family members are keeping his legend alive. I am so glad that I was able to meet this wonderful person because I in turn have directed everyone I know to this website and they too have been inspired.
A very important life lesson that he talked about was about the brick walls we come to every now and then. What I took from that was that I should never turn around at that brick wall. "The brick wall is there to weed out the people that don't really want that goal." He believed in himself and others. I liked the story about Tommy, the Star Wars student. Randy told Tommy that at that time Star Wars wouldn't be continued, but Tommy pursued and leaped over his brick wall, and found himself doing what he wanted to do with Star Wars.
After intensely watching this speech I thought about my childhood dream. Sometimes we get so involved in life and the careers we are working towards that we forget what our dreams were as a child. As a child I always said that I wanted to be the most spectacular violinist and veterinarian. I wanted to play great music, and I wanted to produce music that could inspire people to dance, love life, and feel something through the music. I wanted to become a veterinarian so that I could help all the animals in the world. I wanted to offer my services pro bono, I wanted to offer the best life possible to each and every pet I came across. My dreams haven't changed, but I learned along the way what was better for me. I love all animals, and lover to take care of animals, but I learned that I don't like blood, or looking at a hurt animal. I learned that it would be too difficult for me to pursue that career because of my fear of coming across an animal that I just couldn't help no matter what I did. I slowly moved away from my violinist career when I began high school. I realized that I couldn't practice day and night if I wanted to succeed well in high school and sports. Instead of it being my life, playing the violin became my outlet. After watching this lecture I generated so many feelings about myself and my goals. I am so glad that I want to be a teacher, but I am also glad that I could entertain the thought about me taking a different road on the path to another career because it shows that I care about my life and what I contribute my time on earth. I have been so inspired through life that I feel comfortable in many different fields of service.
Thank you for introducing this lecture as a class assignment!
