I enjoy watching these "in plain English" type of educational videos. Because of this style of presentation, I have researched so many more topics that I did not know anything about. The question was, "Why do the networked student need a teacher?" Several reasons were listed, such as, "Learning Architect, Modeler, Learning Concierge, Connected Learning Incubator, Network Sherpa, Synthesizer, and Change Agent." Beyond those, the teacher is a role model that helps each student learn leadership skills and foundation skills. You also need a teacher so that he of she can give you feedback so that you can talk to the teacher about your concerns or success stories. A form of communication needs to be established and not only does it benefit the student to have an adult to talk with about coursework, it also helps the teacher because he or she needs to grow with experience and be able to learn what is best for the students. Teachers are needed no matter what talents students have. I understand the concept of connectivism, but I still need to know what the benefits are to practicing this.
I learned something else that was on this video. Several things were familiar, but it was the first time that I got to hear about Google Scholar. I have explored this resource and am so glad that it was introduced in this video because I had no idea this type of resource was available. I currently use EBSCO, but I like Google Scholar better.
